Axes Grind and Maces Clash...
The tale of J.D. Gammie begins with three friends (in Hut 37 at Devonport High School in Plymouth), agreeing to play Basic and later AD&D together. Over the decades since that fateful day, our keenness for roleplaying games has not waned and these books were initially conceived as a way to celebrate and immortalise some of our favourite characters created in that time.
However, soon it became more than that. Fantasy often takes itself too seriously, or pulls its punches. By turns twee, pompous, narcissistic and self indulgent. Must fantasy be that way? That’s not how WE played it in D&D campaigns. Our games were/are action packed, with high stakes, brutal violence and always, ALWAYS, laughter. Because, if you can’t call the malevolent Machiavellian magic user a bookworm bitch… then what’s the point?
The books are our attempt to deliver on that premise, packed with easter egg quotes and beautiful verbiage. For English has some delightful diction, and as we all know sinister soliloquys sparkle with syllables!
We hope you enjoy them.
P.S. No A.I. was used producing these books
